Our History

Passion for the Game

Since its introduction in Asia in 2006, Wheelchair Rugby has rapidly gained momentum, spreading its reach across the continent. The sport first made its mark in Japan, then South Korea followed by Malaysia and Thailand.With the Asian ParaGames of 2014 saw Indonesia start wheelchair rugby in 2014, followed by Singapore in 2015, and subsequently in Timor-leste in 2017, Cambodia in 2019, and the Philippines in 2024.

Today, Asian Wheelchair Rugby has established a strong presence in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Timor-leste, and India. We are actively engaged in furthering the development of the sport in Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Philippines, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Nepal.

With each passing year, our mission to promote and grow Wheelchair Rugby throughout Asia continues to gather pace. Together, we are working towards a future where the sport is accessible to all, transcending borders and barriers.
